Already got your bamboo dishes? We got you covered! Here is a guide on how to best care for our products so they’ll last you a loooong time!
- Hand Wash Only: Bamboo products are not suitable for the dishwasher. Wash them by hand using mild soap, warm water, and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid using abrasive scouring pads, as they can damage the surface. Clean bamboo plates promptly after use. Bamboo is naturally antibacterial, so a soapy hand wash is sufficient. It's essential to prevent moisture from being trapped within the porous material.
- Dry Promptly: After washing, ensure your bamboo products are thoroughly dried to prevent moisture from being absorbed. You can use a towel or air dry them in a well-ventilated area.
- Apply Mineral Oil: Periodically, apply food-grade mineral oil to maintain the bamboo's luster and prevent it from drying out. This will also help to preserve its natural color. Every 4 weeks or when they appear discolored or dry, consider polishing with natural products like coconut oil, beeswax, or vegetable oil. Spread the oil across the plate with a cloth, let it sit for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off any excess oil to prevent stickiness or greasiness.
- Use Bamboo-Safe Utensils: When eating or serving food in bamboo dishes, use bamboo or other soft utensils. Metal utensils and sharp knives can scratch the surface, damage the protective seal and affect the finish.
-
Store Properly: When not in use, store your bamboo products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Avoid storing them in damp or excessively humid environments.
-
Removing Stains & Odors:
- Baking Soda: Mix baking soda with soap and water, scrub the stain, let it sit for a minute, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Lemon: Squeeze lemon juice into your baking soda mix, scrub and wash it, or use lemon juice directly on the stain to deodorize.
- Vinegar: Pour vinegar onto the stained area, scrub with a clean cloth, then rinse.
- Don't Soak: Avoid soaking bamboo products for extended periods, as this can cause them to swell or become misshapen. Avoid keeping liquids on plates and bowls for a long period of time.
- Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners on bamboo items, as they can damage the finish and degrade the material.
- Don't Microwave or Oven: Bamboo products are not microwave or oven-safe. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures. Heat your food in a microwave or oven-safe containers and then transfer it onto the bamboo dish.
- Prevent Prolonged Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and drying of bamboo products, so avoid leaving them out in the sun for extended periods.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your bamboo plates and bowls remain in excellent condition and continue to provide you with the many benefits of using bamboo products.
